If you still have yet to watch the Series premier, do not fret; this will be a spoiler free review (for the most part) because the Pilot episode is just too special to completely spoil it for you. I emotionally prepared myself before the episode began; I just knew that tears would be shed. I didn’t know when or why but with tissues in hand I began the episode.
The episode begins with these words on the screen:
“THIS IS A FACT: ACCORDING TO WIKIPEDIA, THE AVERAGE HUMAN BEING SHARES HIS OR HER BIRTHDAY WITH OVER 18 MILLION OTHER HUMAN BEINGS.”
“THERE IS NO EVIDENCE THAT SHARING THE SAME BIRTHDAY CREATES ANY TYPE OF BEHAVIORAL LINK BETWEEN THOSE PEOPLE.”
The show is about unconventional families; it’s about the flaws that bring us strength. It showcases love in all of these different ways while keeping genuine emotion throughout the episode. For a pilot episode, it was one of the strongest that I’ve seen. It gave us enough story this first episode to leave us wanting more while giving us a back story on each character which immediately makes us become emotionally invested.

If you’re feeling the need to stay in on a Tuesday night with a box of tissues and a bottle glass of wine, then this show is for you. In the middle of watching this show I actually got chills when I realized the magic that I was witnessing on screen. The twist at the end alone should be enough to give this show a chance (I don’t want to spoil anything but will discuss the twist next week.) This Is Us, has just become my new favorite show and I am so ready to be emotionally scarred by it.
