It’s finally here! After countless teasers and speculation of what the season would be about; Season 6 of American Horror Story is here and it already has me watching the show with the lights on.
The teasers had many speculating about the season but finally the theme has been revealed. Season 6, just like previous seasons, is loosely based on a true story; in 1590 all 117 people in the American colony of Roanoke died suddenly. The spirits are said to have lingered and they haunted the Native population nearby. Prior to the season premiering Ryan Murphy had mentioned that Season 6 would somehow connect all the seasons, “They’re all connected. We’re just beginning to tell you how they’re connected. They’re all very separate but there’s clues every season that we’re now telling you how the different worlds are intertwined.” Well here’s how he connected the seasons on episode 1 of the current season; in Season 1 Billie Dean Howard told the story of the colony of Roanoke.

The show is also exploring a new format this season, resembling a true crime documentary and I am here for it. I enjoy when a TV show experiments with ways on how to tell the narrative and so far it’s only been one episode and this format seems to be working for American Horror Story. I’m excited to see where this season goes, I’m interested to see how Kathy Bates and Lady Gaga are incorporated into the season.
For its first episode, it gave me enough to want to come back for more. Let’s just hope they don’t get lost within the Universe that they’ve created, much like they did in season 5 when the storyline got away from them. Are you watching this season? What are your thoughts so far?
