When Hollywood Fails us (Again)
Support Independent Film Makers
It has happened again, Hollywood has spent millions on a film that we all had doubts about. As production on the film continued our doubts grew until the film was released and it was worse than we could have ever feared. This tale of woe applies to two films in the past month, Pixels and Fantastic Four. Both of these films on paper probably sounded amazing, but that is about where the desire to make a quality film or take chances ended. Too often the big studios rush out some bit of garbage for reasons other than making quality entertainment. There are many reasons they do this, but the problem is the studios always learn the wrong lessons from these failures. The biggest issue though is that it scares the studios out of taking risks with smaller untested ideas, films, or directors. 
That is what led me to write another rant about supporting Independent films and film makers. Now don't get me wrong, I completely understand that for every great independent film out there, there at least a dozen that are crap. However we get to let the film makers know in advance if it is a project we are interested in. We get to be involved with them each step of the way, we get to interact with them, comment on things, and often times help with the story. We have a hand in helping the stories we want and are interested, stories that studios would never consider, see the light of day. Now let me be upfront, I am not just telling you to throw your money into this while I sit back and watch, crowd funding is a method that I firmly believe in. I have supported films, books, video games and tech projects. I wouldn't ask this of you if I wasn't willing to "put my money where my mouth was".
That being said I want to direct your attention to a project that came to my attention. It is for a short film called Spaceman and it is worth your time to check it out. If you enjoy your science fiction to explore the depths of humanity and philosophy (much like Star Trek did) then this really sounds like it will be right up your alley.
