Scaredy Nerds Week 14
Hey, Mr. Spaceman!

Woke up this morning with light in my eyes
And then realized it was still dark outside
It was a light coming down from the sky
I don't know who or why

There really is a song for any occasion and if you couldn't guess, this week our horror is from SPACE! This week on Scaredy Nerds we are jumping all the way to the 1950's. The 1940's had some good stuff left to watch, but most of it could be considered spin offs or sequals. So instead, we are about to embark on another of Hollywood's most influential films. It is a film that like many others will seem familiar even if you haven't seen it. However before we can get there let's talk one last time about a man known for his aliens, H.R. Giger.

H.R. Giger
Last week we took some time out of our normal routine to pay tribute to a legend in the horror community, HR Gige. Giger is best known for his hand in creating the xenomorphs of the Aliens franchise. A creature so iconic that people who haven't even seen the films recognize them. Giger had a very unique view of art and life and it was this view that evoked such strong reactions from people. You either loved his work or hated it, but regardless you immediately recognized it. Giger will be missed by the community that owes so much to him. missed but not forgotten.

Homework:
Our film this week will really get us in a paranoid mood, which is appropriate since this film was made in the middle of what is known as the second Red Scare. The secret invasion of Communism in the US was a big deal and Hollywood would be releasing lots of films that would tap into that fear. The Thing From Another World would not be the first to do it, but it may have been one of the best. Enjoy this weeks film and keep your eyes open.
