Scaredy Nerds Week 12
I'm Hungry Like the Wolf!

Burning the ground, I break from the crowd
I'm on the hunt, I'm after you
I smell like I sound, I'm lost and I'm found
And I'm hungry like the wolf

Duran Duran lyrics just seemed appropriate since this next week we are revisiting Werewolves. Of course when are lyrics from Duran Duran not appropriate? Just like this past week we saw the iconic version of Frankenstein, this week we will be getting the Iconic Werewolf! But before we can put the shaving kit away for the next week it is time to bring a monster to life one last time, ready to turn in your Homework?

Frankenstein
Once again we have had the opportunity to watch a film that has shaped modern mass entertainment in a way that few other films have. If you don't believe me, then just check out this nice little list from the folks at io9 of the "silliest" Frankenstein spoofs, and this barely scratches the surface! Again we are shown a strong example of the dangers of science out of control. If you couldn't guess from all of the films of this era, Hollywood was taping into the fears of the public. Fears that things created in the lab were as scary as anything in supernatural or from myths. One of my favorite aspects of this movie was Boris Karloff's warning at the start of the film. It sets a very nice tone for the film that follows, and is a set up that like the rest of the film has been copied by many others, including the Simpsons. Did you enjoy the ultimate version of Frankenstein? Did you find it very familiar based on some other things you had already seen? Personally I very glad to have finally added this monster to the list of films watched since so much of what is to come will pay homage to this one.

This Week's Homework:
This week we once again get to witness the iconic version of a Hollywood monster. This week we see The 1941 film the Wolf Man! This version stars Bela Lugosi and Claude Rains. Everyone knows Lugosi, but if you don't remember Rains, he played the Invisible Man in the version we watched in week 8. Enough stalling, time to let another cat cross our path with The Wolf Man!
